Gravestone Transcriptions from Area B in Thornbury Church
The graveyard to the north of the church is in two halves. That on the west side adjacent to the road is more recent and is approached by way of a stone archway which was formerly the entrance to the village pound. These graves are in clear rows with the headstones facing east. This is designated as area B and covers rows 15 to 20 on the schedule. There are a total of 79 gravestones in this area

1501 In loving memory of a devoted wife & mother Elizabeth Jane Jollow of South Wonford, who died March 15th 1972 aged 73 years. The beloved wife of Francis (Jollow) who died November 15th 1978 aged 87 years. Re-united. Also of their darling son William James (Jollow) who died December 8, 1929 aged 8½ years. Who plucked this flower? I, said the master, and the gardener held his peace.
1502 In loving memory of Elizabeth Sluggett, beloved wife of William Sluggett, of Lopthorne, Thornbury, who fell asleep Feb 16th 1937 aged 58 years. The dear one is gone though she lingered in pain, and all that was done for her aid was in vain, at last she was taken, with Christ she is now, and glories unending encircle her now. Also of the above William Sluggett who fell asleep Feb 13th 1953 aged 75 years. Peace perfect peace.
