The Big Lunch
The Big Lunch is the UK’s annual get-together for neighbours, celebrating community and togetherness over food, friendship and fun. Since its inception in 2009 participation in The Big Lunch has grown year on year from 750,000 to over 9 million people sitting down with their neighbours to eat lunch together in 2017. That’s 14% of the population!
In 2018 Thornbury held its first Big Lunch, attended by 90 people, young and old.
In 2022, we will be holding our Jubilee Big Lunch on Sunday 5th June, at Thornbury Holiday Park.
It will be a ‘bring and share’ meal and to help us get a good variety of food, each Hamlet has a local coordinator who will knock on your door to invite you to come, and to get some idea of what sort of food you will be bringing.
We hope that the weather will be kind to us, but if it is looking like it might rain, we will still go ahead as we have gazebos, including our 12m x 6m marquee, but you might like to bring along your own gazebo, if you have one, as well as a picnic table and chairs.
We are trying to avoid producing too much plastic waste, so if you could also bring along your own cutlery, that would help.
The Parish Council have kindly agreed to provide free tea, coffee and squash, but you are welcome to bring along a tipple of your choice and the bar at the Holiday Park will be open for you to buy alcoholic and other soft drinks.
There will also be a FREE loyal toast, with a complimentary glass of fizz, to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years on the throne.
And our Bumper Hamper Raffle will feature a great range of prizes – tickets will be available to the Holiday Park ahead of the day, and on site on the day.
The playground at the Holiday Park will be available for children.
We hope this will be a chance for neighbours, old and new, to get together and gossip and share stories. If you know of somebody who might like to come but has no transport, then let us know and we will arrange for them to be collected
