Road Warden Scheme

Road Warden Scheme

Thornbury Parish Council is now part of the Devon Highways “Road Warden Scheme”. This allows the community to carry out minor works such as filling small potholes, repairing signposts or clearing blocked drains, using funds from the County Council. The intention is not to do the Highways Department’s job for them, but to ensure that small issues don’t become major problems that we are forced to wait for a long time to be fixed. It will also give us a closer working relationship with the Highways team, so we can hopefully influence the priority of any larger scale work on our patch.

We have received grant funding from Devon County Council, and now hold materials, signs and tools (including a whacker plate) locally.  We have repaired over 100 potholes, and always volunteers to help with this work, especially when work on the highways needs additional safety measures, like cones or signage. We can fit in any work at a time to suit those involved. There is free training available, and funding for protective clothing.  If you would like to know more about the scheme, or feel you can spare a few hours to help, please contact Paul Taylor via email, at roads@thornburyhamlets.com, or call me on 261804.
